FAQ

Have Questions about Elite Care Canada or about becoming a caregiver in Canada? Please read through our list of frequently asked questions to find out more about us and the program in Canada.

    1. I am not sure if you will accept me. What countries do you recruit from?
All countries. As long as you qualify, we will accept you into our program. Every country has different programs and visa offices. This may seem complicated, but it actually helps. The diversity of our applicants is one of the reasons Canadian families come to us first.

    1. How much does your program cost?
Elite Care Canada does not have a set cost. Your skills, qualifications, and experience determine your expenses. This means that if you have caregiver training, nursing, teaching, or comparable experience, you will pay less.
The fastest way to find out your specific costs is to send us your application. We will provide you with a free assessment as soon as we receive it, so that you can determine your eligibility and costs all at once.

    1. What happens if something goes wrong where I work?
If your placement isn’t working out and you need a different placement, we will help you free of charge. We want to make sure our families and nannies are both happy. The vast majority of our caregivers never need to be relocated, but sometimes there are unexpected changes. We continue to look after your needs even when you are already in Canada.

    1. Will you get me my visa?
We use the services of a leading Canadian immigration law firm for all of our cases. This means that we have expert advice at our hands when we are working on your papers. If you are honest on your application and qualify, there is no reason you shouldn’t get your visa. If there are any complications, you should contact us immediately, and we will intervene where possible to make sure everything works out fast.

    1. If I change families, will I still be able to get my Permanent Residency?
Yes. Changing a family does not disqualify you. We will help you get your new work permit to start working towards your 2 years again, ASAP. A change does not prevent you from qualifying – this is important, because it means you have more rights and choice.

    1. Can I bring my family to Canada when I work as a caregiver?
When coming to Canada as a live-in caregiver, you will be moving into your host family’s home. This is the law. If you are interested in additional information regarding immigration or bringing relatives, you will have increased options once you have your permanent residency. If you need additional immigration services today, call our offices for a referral.

    1. Do I have to pay taxes when I work as a caregiver?
Taxes are mandatory, but you will not be paying them directly. Your employer will be remitting taxes to the government. When it comes time to file your taxes, you will likely have all or most of your tax money returned to you from the government.

    1. I don’t have a First Aid certification. Is this a problem?
No. If you are unable to get a First Aid certificate, we can still work to find you a placement in Canada. However, if you are able to obtain one, we strongly recommend that you do. Extra skills, especially around safety and emergency care is something many Canadian families like to see.

    1. Do I need a driver’s license?
No. However, like First Aid certification, a license can be a big help. Having an international drivers permit for when you come to Canada can help families in need of a driver for their children, while you can gain advanced certification through the provincial driver’s program.

    1. I am working as a nanny in my home country. Is this enough to qualify?
Probably not. In order to qualify for the live-in caregiver program, you will need to be able to show a contract or certificate to prove your eligibility. Local placements rarely have contracts and can rarely be proven to qualify. If you think your local experience is sufficient, contact us to see if you are eligible.
